Todoist
FreeTask manager with natural-language dates, projects, labels and filters. Syncs across web, mobile and desktop; the free tier handles up to five personal projects with recurring tasks.
Bonus: install Todoist from your browser
Why we recommend Todoist
Todoist has survived two decades of to-do app churn because it nails the fundamentals: capture is instant (type 'pay rent every 1st' and the recurrence is parsed), sync is reliable, and the query-based filters let power users build exactly the views they need. It is opinionated enough to work out of the box yet flexible enough for full GTD setups.
Best use cases
Best for: personal task management with recurring chores, GTD-style weekly reviews using filters and labels, and lightweight shared lists (groceries, household) with a partner. The Quick Add keyboard flow makes it the fastest capture tool in its class.
Honest limitations
The free tier caps you at five active personal projects and drops reminders — time-based reminders are the single most-missed paid feature. It is deliberately not a project-management tool: no timelines, dependencies or docs. Karma gamification is shallow and easily ignored.
